On the momentous occasion of the 13th of December 2023, India’s maritime innovation soared to new heights as Navalt proudly revealed Barracuda, hailed as the nation’s fastest solar-electric boat. This unveiling marked the third milestone for Navalt, following the successful creation of Aditya, India’s first solar-electric ferry, and SRAV, the world’s inaugural solar-electric fishing boat. Navalt’s recent launch of Indra, the solar-electric boat, is its fourth significant achievement in this realm.

Esteemed dignitaries, industry leaders, and visionaries convened to witness this groundbreaking occasion, underscoring their commitment to sustainable maritime solutions. Key figures like Shri. Sanjay Kumar Singh, General Manager of Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), stressed the importance of this accomplishment.

Barracuda exemplifies innovation and durability, designed to navigate rough sea conditions, enduring waves up to 4 meters high. Its catamaran hull ensures exceptional stability and optimum performance at higher speeds and achieves a remarkable top speed of 12.5 knots. With a capacity for 10 passengers, the vessel incorporates a 6-kW solar panel for battery charging and twin 50 kW motors for propulsion.

During the launch, Mazagon Dock revealed collaborative future projects with Navalt. Navalt has made a significant mark in India’s maritime sector, exploring discussions for new eco-friendly vessels like ROROs, Tugs, and Hydrogen-powered vessels with various stakeholders.

It’s noteworthy that Mazagon Dock ranks as India’s second-largest shipyard, boasting 250 years of shipbuilding expertise, and specializing in submarine construction.

Navalt’s progression from Aditya to SRAV and now Barracuda and India underscores their continuous efforts in advancing sustainable maritime technology. Indra, the latest addition, reaffirms Navalt’s leadership in reshaping India’s maritime industry with pioneering and eco-conscious solutions.
